Blair King

Blair King, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Arts District Chorale (ADC) was appointed to the position in June 2022, after a five-month stint as Interim Artistic Director. He is the current Choir Director and Vocal Music Instructor at Shelton School in Dallas, where he has worked since 1997. He also teaches private voice lessons. He served as music director at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, Resurrection Episcopal Church in Plano, and was Artistic Director of the Lewisville Civic Chorale from 2008-2012.

King graduated from the Texas Tech University (TTU) School of Music where he studied conducting with Dr. Kenneth Davis, Dr. Ronnie Oliver and Dr. Eric Fried, as well as participated in numerous workshops with such well-known choral conductors as Paul Salomunovich and Simon Preston. He also studied voice at TTU with John Gillas, Sue Arnold, Emily Brunson and James Shrader. In recent years, he has continued studying vocal pedagogy though workshops and continuing education at the University of North Texas and New England Conservatory.

He has worked extensively in local musical theater as both musical director and vocal coach. Highlights include Matilda the Musical at the Firehouse Theatre, and Company and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at Theatre Denton. At Shelton School, he is currently directing the music for Shrek the Musical, the school’s 10th major musical production, which opens in February. He has also been integral in developing plans for Shelton’s new Fine Arts Center, along with expanding the school’s choral program.

Mr. King is the proud dad of Nate, a junior honor student and talented trombone player at a local high school.
